Zoolan Rice (known as Garshield Bayhan in the anime) is the overarching antagonist of the Inazuma Eleven RPG series. He is the board leader of the Football Frontier International, and the ruthless coach of Brazil's national team The Kingdom. He was also the true mastermind behind the supposed death of Mark's grandfather, David Evans.
Biography[]
Before the events of the series, Zoolan Rice was the man responsible behind the actions of Ray Dark, after having been interfered by David Evans however, who made several attempts to stop him, Zoolan chose to orchestrate his death in a coach accident. While David did survive, the latter ended up going into hiding and settling in the country of Cote Victoire, wanting to keep his family safe from Zoolan Rice.
Zoolan Rice was in contact with Ray Dark during the latter's reign as the Coach of Italy's team; Orpheus. He has the Japan vs Argentina match rescheduled to today, and organises a car wreck, ensuring that Mark, Jude, Samford and Caleb would be unable to make it to the match.
After Ray Dark had turned himself in (as well as redeemed himself), Zoolan organised an accident to kill Dark for betraying him.
Zoolan Rice first appeared while giving a speech to Liocott Island, fooling them all into thinking that he was trying to promote world peace by using football. He coached the Brazilian team called The Kingdom, and beforehand gave all of them the chances to play professional football and supplied their families with occupations so they could make a living. However, Carlos Lagarto, a defender for the team, later revealed that Zoolan held them all under his thumb and threatened their families should they displease him. This was just after a group of Inazuma National players stopped Zoolan's men from harming Lagarto's younger brother.
After infiltrating Zoolan's mansion, Inazuma National discover that Zoolan is planning on starting a war and taking control of the world by being a benefactor of oil and weapons. Mark is enraged for him trying to use football as a means of tyranny and Seymour Hillman proceeds to take the evidence to the police. On his way there however, Hillman is pursued by Zoolan's men but manages to evade them. However, Hillman suffers a heart attack and is rushed to the hospital. Coach Percival Travis then gives the evidence to the police, Zoolan's men report this and he ends up buying the police off to stay silent.
While having believed to have been arrested, Zoolan Rice and his underling Phil A. Minion arrive at the Japan vs Brazil match. The match takes place, and The Kingdom's players are forced into submission again. However, evidence from Hector Helio revealed that Zoolan had been using Mac Robingo, the team's captain, as a subject for a power enhancing device; the HR program (which was activated by the referee's whistle). While Zoolan was brought into custody, he was able to escape by an organised accident that landed Detective Smith and the other police in the hospital.
Zoolan then creates his own football team; Team Zoolan, with every member empowered by the HR program. He has them terrorise the Cote Victoire camp, knowing that David Evans is still trying to ruin his plans.
Team Zoolan then faces Inazuma National, and the latter team ends up winning. Minion and Team Zoolan all turn on Rice as well, having revealed that he promised to stop the wars in their country. After the match ended, Zoolan was finally brought to justice and breaks down in saying that the only way the world can thrive on it's remaining resources, is if he takes control of them, and that he is the only one who can "save the world".
It is unknown what happened to Rice thereafter, though he was likely imprisoned for the rest of his life, with his imprisonment ensuring that nobody else would be harmed by him.
Personality[]
While presenting himself as a humble and polite figure to the media. Zoolan Rice is a heartless man who was willing to go any lengths in order to seize power, while he gave his players families jobs, he also threatened to harm them if his players displeased him. Zoolan was even able to bribe the Liocott police and FFI officials not to interfere with his plans. He ultimately does not care anybody but himself and will exploit desperate people in order to further his goals. Zoolan will also dispose of his own henchmen if they fail or abandon him, as he arranged Ray Dark's death in a motor accident just after the latter had turned himself in and redeemed himself.
Zoolan is also undoubtedly the most evil Inazuma Eleven villain. Unlike the previous two who came before him, he has no tragic backstory or understandable motivations. His defeat revealed him to be a power-hungry and delusional madman, who believed that the world could only thrive if he took complete control of it.
